History of Freehold NJ

Due to an act of legislature as one of the three original townships located in Monmouth County, Freehold was established in 1693. The name of the township is derived from the same word having legal connotations that means fee simple property ownership. The separation of Freeland Borough from Freeland Township took place on 15th April, 1919.

The early 20th century witnessed a growth in farming and population in Freeland NJ, followed by rapid development post the Second World War, during which industrial and commercial businesses started developing in the area.
