History of Glen Rock NJ

Taken from parts of Saddle River Township and Ridgewood Township during the "Boroughitis", the borough of Glen Rock was created on 14th September, 1894. The aim of breaking away from Ridgewood Township was to make it easier for the students of Glen Rock to go to a school located closer to the center of Ridgewood. Although the borough was originally about to be named "South Ridgewood", it was decided to be called “Glen Rock” instead so as to avoid any confusion with Ridgewood Village.
