History of Ridgewood NJ

The very first home in the village of Ridgewood NJ was built by Johannes Van Emburgh in 1700, after he purchased a 250-acre property two years prior in 1698. Ridgewood NJ was officially created on 20th November, 1894. The village of Ridgewood NJ went on to become the municipal government. Certain portions of Orvil Township were added by Ridgewood in 1902, and these portions were also returned in 1915 to Orvil Township. The Franklin Township was acquired by Ridgewood in 1925. It also went on to acquire an area from Washington Township on 9th February, 1971 and an area from Ho-Ho-Kus on 28th May, 1974.
